Well lets make a start, its time we had some reports on here .If you visit Toft, why not put a report on here to keep people up to date.
My first visit of the year was on Tuesday23rd ,easterly wind and cold. Started off on a Di5 and two debarbed boobies thinking the fish were going to be deep. Black pipe 20mins no pulls no follows , another move further round away from the boats(submarines) lol,  nothing , another move got a tap, then played about with retrieve and started getting more interest, 1 fish landed ,2 lost. P Cowan fished the black pipe area around 11.00 and caught steadily on an intermediate line nymphs and booby.Seems the fish came up in the water and onto the feed.

Lesson , just because you are cold dont think the fish will always be hard on the bottom, still a pleasant 4 hrs fishing.

hellom8 i have not fished yet at toft asi have been recovering from an op. my mate steve hendry has had 3 or 4 trips. on opening day he had 35, next trip 12, last trip 8. steve is only an occasional trout angler as his real passion is carp, however he has been trout fishing for many years. steve and i normally use similar tactics at toft and other waters in the winter and that is to use a floating line with a 5ft fast sink polyleader and 12ft 7lb fluorocarbon tippet. wherever we go in winter people always seem amazed that we are using a floating line and fishing quite shallow. i have never ever found the need to fish deep at toft apart in boiling hot weather. it is only my opinion but i think it is a fallacy that trout are lethargic and slow in winter. rainbows are indiginous to the freezing cold lakes and rivers of north america and i think they thrive in the cold. the usual black/green white/green or olive small lures always work for us.
